This is problematic, as it raises concerns about the potential misuse of these powerful AI systems by government entities.

This is why Open source models are the future of AI.

No one entity should be able to own the code that is used by millions and share the code (and responses) with governments.

Open-source AI development ensures transparency, allowing the public to scrutinize the models and their applications.

This promotes accountability and helps mitigate the risks of government misuse.

Additionally, open-source approaches foster collaboration, enabling researchers and developers worldwide to contribute and improve these technologies for the benefit of all.

By embracing open-source principles, the AI community can build more trustworthy and ethical systems that serve the greater good, rather than the interests of a few powerful entities.

Here are some popular open source models you can use today instead of ChatGPT or Claude

LLaMA, LLaMA 2 and LLaMA 3

Released by Meta, these models have gained significant traction in the open-source community. LLaMA 2 is available in different sizes and can be used for both commercial and research purposes.

Mistral AI

Developed by a French startup, Mistral offers lightweight models like Mistral 7B and more powerful ones like Mistral 8x22B. These models are designed to be flexible and easy to deploy on low-power hardware.

BLOOM

Described as the world's largest open, multilingual language model with 176 billion parameters. It was developed by Hugging Face and a team of over 1,000 researchers.
