Midjourney releases new unified AI image editor on the web
Midjourney has launched a new web-based AI image editor that unifies various features like inpainting, outpainting, and canvas extension into a single intuitive interface. The update aims to streamline the creative process for users and foster a more connected community across its web and Discord platforms.
The new web editor introduces a virtual "brush" tool for precise inpainting, replacing the previous square selector and lasso tools.
Midjourney has also implemented message mirroring between certain Web Rooms and corresponding Discord channels to keep users in sync.
The release comes amidst a class-action lawsuit against Midjourney and other AI companies, alleging copyright violations in their training practices.
YouTube creator sues Nvidia and OpenAI for ‘unjust enrichment’ for using their videos for AI training
Nvidia faces a class action lawsuit for allegedly scraping YouTube videos without permission to train its AI models.
The lawsuit claims Nvidia violated California's Unfair Competition Law and unjustly enriched itself at creators' expense
The lawsuit was filed after a 404 Media investigation revealed Nvidia had scraped over 400,000 hours of YouTube videos per day to train its AI systems like Cosmos. Nvidia allegedly used software on servers to evade YouTube's detection while downloading this massive amount of video content.
Nvidia claims it respects creators' rights and that learning from public data to create "new and transformative works" is legal and encouraged. However, the unauthorized use likely violates YouTube's terms of service.
OpenAI says Iran tried to influence US elections with ChatGPT

OpenAI has banned ChatGPT accounts linked to an Iranian influence campaign that generated content related to the upcoming 2024 US presidential election and other political topics. The covert operation, known as Storm-2035, aimed to engage with US voters by creating articles and social media posts from various political perspectives.
The Iranian campaign used ChatGPT to write lengthy articles and social media posts on platforms like Instagram and X (formerly Twitter).
In addition to US election content, the operation generated posts about the Gaza conflict, Israel's Olympic participation, Venezuelan politics, and Latinx rights in the US.
OpenAI's investigation found that the campaign's social media posts garnered little audience engagement, with most receiving few or no likes, shares, or comments.
