Yelp enters the AI arena…

Yelp is launching a new AI-powered chatbot assistant called Yelp Assistant to help users connect with and hire local service professionals more efficiently.

The assistant uses OpenAI's language models and Yelp's own data to understand user queries, ask follow-up questions, and match users with relevant businesses.

Yelp is also enhancing its Yelp Fusion API to enable more natural language search and conversational AI experiences for third-party partners.

• Yelp Assistant is being introduced on the iOS app under the 'Projects' tab, with plans to expand to Android later this year.

• The chatbot can assist users across a wide range of service categories, including home, auto, beauty, pet care, real estate, and more.

Yelp is really smart to be jumping on the AI chatbot bandwagon.

Sometimes sifting through all those business listings can be a real pain, especially when you're in a hurry to find a plumber or a dog groomer or what have you.

But with this new AI assistant, Yelp is saying, "Hey, let us do the heavy lifting for you!"

By tapping into those advanced language models and their own trove of business data, Yelp can now act as a virtual concierge, quickly understanding what you need and matching you up with the right local pros.

AI can now edit genes…

Researchers have developed AI models capable of designing new CRISPR gene-editing tools, including both proteins and guide RNAs, by training on large datasets of microbial genomes and CRISPR sequences.

These AI-generated CRISPR systems could potentially be better suited for medical applications than existing CRISPR tools.

The availability of these AI-designed CRISPR tools and the underlying models used to create them could accelerate the development of new gene-editing therapies.

📫️ The details:

• The AI models, called ProGen and EVO, were trained on over 300 billion DNA letters from 80,000 microbial genomes to gain insight into naturally occurring genetic sequences. This insight was then applied to designing novel CRISPR components.

• The researchers used these AI models to generate millions of new CRISPR protein sequences and guide RNAs, expanding the diversity of CRISPR tools available for potential therapeutic applications.

• Experts believe the unrestricted availability of AI-generated CRISPR tools and underlying models could make them more accessible and better suited for medical use compared to existing CRISPR systems.
