AI ON MY MIND

Happy Tuesday,

AI-generated tracks are appearing on the official Spotify pages of deceased musicians. The incidents are slipping through the cracks of content moderation, highlighting a major security problem for streaming platforms.

These fraudulent uploads not only damage the legacy of artists but also undermine listener trust in the platform's content.

By the way, I've been getting questions about how AI works in practice, so I'm launching a separate newsletter that dives deeper into real business applications and practical advice. [Click here if you're interested].

TODAY’S TOP STORIES

AI Impersonates Dead Artists

The Recap: AI-generated songs are being uploaded to the official Spotify profiles of deceased artists like Blaze Foley and Guy Clark. The incidents expose major holes in platform security and raise new questions about content moderation in the age of generative AI.

Unpacked:

  • The fake tracks are slipping through music distributors like TikTok-owned SoundOn, which allows users to upload music directly to multiple streaming platforms.

  • While Spotify removed the tracks for violating its deceptive content policy, critics argue the platform lacks the necessary security measures to prevent these fraudulent uploads in the first place.

  • This is part of a larger trend on the platform, which recently saw an entirely AI-generated band called 'Velvet Sundown' appear in several official playlists.

Bottom line: These incidents damage the legacy of artists and erode listener trust in the authenticity of platform content. As AI tools become more accessible, streaming services face increasing pressure to develop robust verification systems to protect artists, both living and deceased.

OpenAI Inks UK Gov Deal

The Recap:  OpenAI has signed a landmark agreement with the UK government to help integrate its AI into public services. The deal aims to boost national productivity across sectors like education, defence, and justice.

Unpacked:

  • The agreement is a statement of intent rather than a legally-binding contract, setting goals for a partnership between the government and OpenAI.

  • This partnership builds on the UK's broader strategy to attract AI investment, with similar deals already in place with competitors like Google and Anthropic.

  • The government already uses OpenAI models in its "Humphrey" productivity tools, and as part of the deal, OpenAI will expand its London office of over 100 employees.

Bottom line: This deal signals a major government endorsing a specific AI provider for core national functions, setting a precedent for other nations. It highlights the growing trend of public-private partnerships shaping the future of governance and economic policy.

MY FAVORITE AI TOOLS

Relevance is my favorite AI tool right now (even more so than N8N).

Here’s why:

It’s an AI agent building tool that doesn’t require you to build out the logic using nodes. Instead, you use natural language to build out these agents. But the best thing imo is that you can build AI Agent teams.

Like agents talking to each other completing a goal until its done. It’s nuts. No other tool on the market is doing this. You have to check it out.

MORE STORIES

Alibaba's New Open-Source King

The Recap: Alibaba's Qwen team has released Qwen3, an updated model that is now topping the open-source leaderboards. The model's performance is already strong enough to challenge some of the most capable closed-source systems, like Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.

Unpacked:

  • The model's power comes from an innovative design that separates its hybrid thinking process into distinct instruction and reasoning components.

  • It runs with remarkable efficiency, using only 22B active parameters out of a total 235B to deliver significant performance gains.

  • Qwen3 is already available as the default model on Qwen Chat, with benchmarks showing it outperforming major competitors.

Bottom line: The release of Qwen3 significantly heats up the competition between open-source and proprietary AI models. This gives developers and entrepreneurs more powerful and accessible tools to build with.

Brain-Inspired AI Punches Up

The Recap: A new open-source AI, the Brain-inspired Hierarchical Reasoning Model, is delivering top performance on complex puzzles despite having only 27 million parameters. Its unique architecture shows that efficiency can be more impactful than sheer size.

Unpacked:

  • The model’s design mirrors cortical computation in the brain by using principles of hierarchical processing and temporal separation.

  • It shows exceptional ability on tough reasoning benchmarks like ARC-AGI, a test designed to measure abstract reasoning and intelligence.

  • With just 27 million parameters, its efficiency could be vital for future decision-making applications in low-data environments.

Bottom line: This model proves that clever architecture can be more effective than simply scaling up model size. This shift could lead to powerful, specialized AI that runs efficiently on local devices, not just in massive data centers.
