Comparatively, Samsung shipments fell just 0.7% to ~60 million units, putting it back in the top spot that Apple had briefly snatched earlier this year.

We suspect this won’t last long once Apple unleashes its anticipated AI.

AI IN THE NEWS

Instagram is planning to make chatting easier with fans by using AI…

Instagram is testing a new feature called 'Creator AI' that uses artificial intelligence to help popular influencers interact more efficiently with their fans.

📫️ The details:

  • Creator AI is a chatbot that can mimic an influencer's unique "voice" and communication style to respond automatically to direct messages and comments from fans.

  • Influencers can choose data like past posts, DMs, comments, and audio from Reels/Stories to train the AI on their style.

  • The goal is to allow influencers to foster stronger connections with fans while reducing the time spent responding to high message volumes.

  • However, there are concerns that AI-generated responses could damage influencer authenticity and credibility if the chatbot makes inappropriate statements.

🧠 Our thoughts:

The secret sauce of successful influencer marketing is authenticity.

It's all about those genuine connections between creators and their audiences. And that's where the risk lies with Creator AI.

If influencers start relying too heavily on AI to manage their fan interactions, it could start to feel a bit... well, fake.

And let's be real, nobody wants to feel like they're talking to a robot instead of their favorite influencer.

As they dive deeper into the AI game, Instagram and Meta have their work cut out for them.

They'll need to tread carefully and find a way to integrate AI without sacrificing the authenticity that makes influencer marketing so powerful.

AI bigwigs are scratching their heads over how to put their AI models to the responsibility test…

The latest AI Index report from Stanford University's Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence (HAI) reveals a lack of standardization in how AI developers test and compare the responsible behavior of their models.

📫️ The details:

  • Only 3 out of the 5 leading AI developers assessed by Stanford use the widely adopted TruthfulQA benchmark test for responsible behavior.

  • There is uncertainty around the reasons for this lack of standardization, suggesting that some developers may be cherry-picking benchmarks to showcase their models in the best light.

  • The Responsible AI Institute, backed by major companies, has released its own AI benchmarking tools in response to the absence of effective comparison tools.

🧠 Our thoughts:

Without clear benchmarks for responsible AI, businesses, and users are left in the dark when aligning with AI providers that share their values.

As AI becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, establishing standardized tests and comparisons for responsible AI behavior is crucial to ensure these technologies are developed and used ethically.

However, creating these benchmarks is a complex task that requires collaboration from experts across different fields to develop comprehensive and adaptable solutions.

In the meantime, businesses and individuals are left to navigate this wild west of AI on their own…well, not you, of course, since you read our newsletter 🙂

Amazon is coming for Spotify…

Amazon Music has launched Maestro, an AI-powered playlist generator that allows users to create playlists using spoken or written prompts, including emojis.

📫️ The Details:

  • Maestro is Amazon Music's answer to Spotify's AI playlist generator, allowing users to create playlists by describing what they want to listen to.

  • The feature is currently in beta and available to a subset of free Amazon Music users, as well as Prime and Unlimited subscribers in the U.S. on iOS and Android.

  • Users can enter prompts that include activities, sounds, emotions, or even emojis, and Maestro will generate a playlist of songs that match the input.

🧠 Our thoughts:

Who doesn't love a playlist that feels like it was made just for them?

We think it can work well.

We’re team Spotify over here, but if Maestro is better at curating music based on my mood or previous likes, we may have to switch.
