X collects user data without consent for Grok AI training - how to opt out

X (formerly Twitter) has begun using user data to train its AI assistant Grok without explicit consent, sparking privacy concerns and potential legal issues in Europe.

Users have been automatically opted into the data sharing program, which allows X to collect user interactions, inputs, and outputs with Grok to train and fine-tune the AI models, which are also shared with Elon Musk's company xAI.

The data sharing setting is enabled by default for all users, implemented without prior notice, and the opt-out option is hidden on the website and unavailable on the mobile app.
This practice likely conflicts with European data protection laws, as seen in a similar case involving Meta's AI assistant, which was paused in Europe following objections from Irish data protection authorities.
The Irish Data Protection Commission is now investigating X's decision to automatically share user data with xAI, potentially leading to a GDPR investigation and fines.

Runway's AI video generator trained on thousands of scraped YouTube videos and pirated films, according to a report from 404 Media.

A spreadsheet detailing Runway's training data, acquired by 404 Media, includes links to YouTube channels affiliated with major entertainment entities like Netflix, Disney, and Rockstar Games, as well as various news organizations.
The dataset also features links to piracy websites providing free access to anime and other animated content.
A former Runway employee informed 404 Media that the channels in the spreadsheet were used company-wide to find high-quality videos to construct the model, which were subsequently downloaded using proxies to bypass potential blocks from Google.

OpenAI is rolling out voice capabilities soon

OpenAI is set to launch voice capabilities for ChatGPT Plus subscribers next week, according to CEO Sam Altman. The feature, initially demonstrated in May with a voice resembling Scarlett Johansson's character in "Her," will allow users to interact with ChatGPT using natural speech.
