OpenAI shuts down tools for two AI political candidates
OpenAI has shut down AI chatbots created by political candidates in Wyoming and the UK, citing violations of their policy against using the technology for political campaigning.
The company took action against Victor Miller's AI mayoral candidate in Cheyenne and Steve Endacott's AI parliamentary candidate, emphasizing that their technology is not designed for autonomous decision-making in government.
OpenAI's policy explicitly prohibits using their technology for political campaigning or lobbying
Experts warn against relying on AI for government decision-making, stressing the importance of human judgment
Despite the setbacks, Miller believes his efforts could inspire more AI candidates in the future
Perplexity AI is lying about their user agent
Perplexity, a billion-dollar AI startup, has been accused of surreptitiously scraping content from websites and generating inaccurate information in its chatbot responses, despite claiming to be an accurate and reliable "answer engine".
WIRED's analysis found that Perplexity's chatbot frequently "hallucinates" or makes up false information, such as attributing fake quotes and events to WIRED articles that never happened.
Developer Robb Knight and WIRED discovered that Perplexity appears to be scraping websites from unpublicized IP addresses, even when those sites have blocked its crawler via robots.txt files.
In some cases, the Perplexity chatbot seems to be summarizing articles not by directly accessing them, but by piecing together information from search engine metadata and extracts, leading to inaccurate and fabricated responses.
QUICK TIP
AI QUICK TIP
✨ Using Twitter X To Find Midjourney Styles
Here’s a quick Midjourney creation tip. Go to Twitter X and type in the search bar --sref.
--sref is a new feature in Midjourney, an AI image generation tool, that allows you to specify a reference image to influence the style and aesthetics of the generated image. Here's how it works:
You add --sref followed by the URL of an image at the end of your text prompt. Midjourney will then analyze that reference image and apply its style, color scheme, and visual characteristics to the image it generates based on your prompt.
It's essentially a way to achieve consistent aesthetics across generated images by using a reference image as a style guide. The resulting image will have a look and feel similar to the reference.
When you type --sref in X, you’ll see many different styles that you can start using immediately.
It’s a great way to find inspiration and see what others generate.
