🤖 Why Media Companies Are Selling Out

The Atlantic, a renowned magazine established in 1857, and Vox Media, a leading digital media company with brands like Vox, The Verge, and New York Magazine, have separately signed multi-year licensing and product agreements with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT.

🔑 Key Details:

  • The deals grant OpenAI the right to license the publishers' archived and current content to train its AI models and generate responses in products like ChatGPT.

  • OpenAI will collaborate with The Atlantic to shape news presentation in future real-time discovery products, and The Atlantic will experiment with AI-driven features through its Atlantic Labs initiative.

  • Vox Media plans to utilize OpenAI's technology to enhance its affiliate commerce product, The Strategist Gift Scout, and its first-party data platform, Forte.

Traditional companies are confronting an undeniable reality: adapt or face obsolescence.

The emergence of AI and its increasing role in content creation presents a critical juncture for these incumbents.

They find themselves at a crossroads, needing to choose between two daunting paths: investing billions to innovate their own AI-driven models or selling their valuable content to AI giants like OpenAI.

For many struggling to maintain profitability, the latter option seems like a lifeline.

A significant influx of cash from selling their content rights can provide a much-needed financial boost, allowing them to stay afloat in a competitive market.

This strategy, however, is not without its risks and limitations.

The immediate financial relief from selling content is undoubtedly attractive.

It can fund operations, pay off debts, and even invest in new ventures. Yet, this solution is temporary.

The window of opportunity to sell high-value content won't remain open indefinitely.

As more companies rush to monetize their assets, the market may become saturated, driving down prices.

OTHER STUFF HAPPENIN’

🤖 AI is now a major source of disinformation, with deepfakes and synthetic media being used to mislead voters and sow doubt about candidates. Experts warn that AI-generated misinformation is becoming increasingly sophisticated and difficult to detect, posing a severe threat to democracy and eroding public trust. Governments and tech companies are struggling to keep up with the rapidly evolving landscape of AI-powered disinformation.

🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Character.ai, a startup that develops chatbots using large language models, has held exploratory talks about potential research partnerships with tech giants Meta and Elon Musk's xAI. The discussions have centered around collaborating to pre-train and develop AI models rather than an acquisition. This comes as major tech companies are eager to partner with AI startups to gain an edge in developing cutting-edge technology.

AI Music for X

The other day, we were watching a podcast, and the intro to the podcast was AI-generated using Suno. We’ve talked about Suno before, but if you’re unfamiliar, Suno creates AI-generated music from text prompts.

AI music tools like Suno can generate professional-quality music quickly and efficiently, tailored to your specific needs. Whether you need background scores for videos, intro music for podcasts, or even a unique theme for your brand, AI can provide it all at the click of a button.

This got us thinking about AI music's incredible potential, especially for solo creators, because you no longer need to know how to make music or hire someone to do it for you.

You can do it yourself.

Follow these steps to create your AI music.

Write lyrics (optional): You can write your own lyrics or use an AI tool like chatGPT to help you write them.

Choose an AI music generation tool: Many AI music generation tools are available, but Suno is probably the best.

Enter your lyrics: Copy and paste your lyrics into the AI music generation tool.

Protip: Include song breaks in brackets to indicate what parts are chorus, pre-chorus, etc.

Select the style of music: Suno allows you to select the style of music you want; you can even combine styles.

Generate music: Once you have entered your lyrics and selected the style of music, you can click on generate to create your AI music. The tool will generate multiple versions of the music for you to choose from.
