Google's AI Can Now Control Your Computer

The Recap: Google just launched Gemini 2.5 Computer Use, a new model that gives AI the ability to directly operate web browsers and computer interfaces to autonomously complete complex tasks.

Unpacked:

  •   In benchmark tests, the model achieved a 69% success rate on web navigation tasks, outperforming both Claude Sonnet 4.5 and OpenAI's latest agent models.

  • Unlike other models that struggle with interfaces, Google’s agent was specifically trained for pixel precision, allowing it to more accurately identify and interact with on-screen elements.

  • You can try it yourself in a demo environment to test its capabilities on tasks like filling forms, organizing project boards, and booking appointments.

Bottom line:This marks a significant shift from AI that just chats to AI that actually performs actions on your behalf. As these agents mature, they are poised to automate countless tedious digital workflows and boost productivity across many industries.

AI Data Centers Drive 92% of US Growth

The Recap: Investment in AI data centers accounted for a stunning 92% of U.S. GDP growth in the first half of 2025, according to a recent analysis by a Harvard economist. Without this boom, the economy would have been at a virtual standstill.

Unpacked:

  • Tech giants are fueling this surge, with hyperscaler capital spending on data centers and related infrastructure nearing $400 billion annually.

  • The outsized impact is clear, as excluding this investment would have left the U.S. with GDP growth of just 0.1%.

  • This spending directly translates to economic output, with data center investment estimated to add roughly 100 basis points to real U.S. GDP growth.

Bottom line: The current economic picture is heavily skewed by the AI infrastructure boom, which is propping up an otherwise sluggish economy. This dependency highlights a critical question about future growth if the pace of this tech investment were to change.
