These 'living computers' are made from human neurons — and you can rent one for $500 a month
Swiss company FinalSpark has created "living computers" made from clusters of human brain cells called organoids, which scientists can rent for $500 per month to explore biocomputing as a more energy-efficient alternative to traditional silicon-based AI systems.
FinalSpark's "Neuroplatform" uses 0.5mm wide brain organoids connected to electrodes that stimulate the neurons and link them to conventional computer networks.
The organoids are selectively exposed to dopamine rewards and electrical stimulation to mimic how the human brain learns, potentially allowing them to serve as AI processing units.
Research teams at 34 universities have expressed interest, with 9 institutions already using FinalSpark's biocomputers to study various aspects of biocomputing

A family was recently hospitalized after consuming poisonous mushrooms they misidentified using an AI-generated guidebook purchased from a major online retailer. The book, titled "Mushrooms UK: A Guide to Harvesting Safe and Edible Mushrooms", contained inaccurate information and has since been removed from sale.
Upon investigation, the family found evidence the book was likely generated by AI, including nonsensical sentences and fourth-wall breaking statements.
Experts warn AI-generated mushroom guides often lack the nuanced knowledge needed to safely distinguish edible from poisonous species, potentially leading to severe illness or death if used for identification.
In 2023, Amazon's marketplace was flooded with low-quality, AI-generated books on foraging and other trending topics, prompting the company to limit how many titles an individual can self-publish per day
