AI ON MY MIND

Happy Thursday!

Prompting is one of the greatest skillsets of our time. Literally. So today I want to give you all a brief reminder of what makes a good prompt.

Let’s say you had an intern working for you.

If you tell this intern, 'Get me some coffee,' you might end up with anything from a shot of espresso to a venti caramel macchiato.

But if you say, 'Please bring me a medium black coffee with no sugar,' you're much more likely to get exactly what you want.

That's the power of a good prompt.

It's about being clear, specific, and giving the AI the right context. When you do this, you're not just getting better answers.

You're teaching the AI how to think about your question.

Break big questions into smaller bits.

Instead of asking, 'How do I start a business?' try asking about specific steps like market research or writing a business plan.

It's like building with Lego bricks.

One piece at a time, and before you know it, you've got a whole structure.

Remember, talking to AI is a skill. The more you practice, the better you'll get. And who knows? You might just discover new ways to think about your own questions in the process.

So, next time you chat with an AI, take a moment to craft your prompt. You might be surprised at how much smarter the AI suddenly seems.

💻  OpenAI Releases SWE-Lancer Benchmark

OpenAI has introduced a groundbreaking benchmark called SWE-Lancer, designed to evaluate AI's performance in real-world freelance software engineering tasks. This innovative benchmark comprises over 1,400 tasks sourced from Upwork, with a total value of $1 million in real-world payouts. SWE-Lancer aims to push the boundaries of AI capabilities in software development, bridging the gap between theoretical models and practical applications.

• The benchmark includes a diverse range of tasks, from minor bug fixes to major feature implementations.

• It also incorporates managerial tasks, testing AI models' ability to make technical decisions.

• SWE-Lancer represents a significant step towards creating more practical and applicable AI systems for the software industry.

My Opinion: I’m actually surprised that OpenAI admitted that Claude 3.5 sonnet is better than ChatGPT. I like that type of transparency, hopefully, we can see more of it.

👀 Mira Murati Launches Thinking Machines Lab

Former OpenAI CTO Mira Murati has officially announced the launch of Thinking Machines Lab, a new AI research company with a focus on open science, human-AI collaboration, and multimodality. This exciting venture brings together a dream team of AI experts from top institutions, aiming to develop more understandable, customizable, and capable AI systems than those currently available in the market.

• The company is assembling talent from leading AI firms including OpenAI, Character AI, and Google DeepMind.

• Thinking Machines Lab aims to optimize collaboration between humans and AI, addressing a key bottleneck in the field.

• The startup's focus on open science could lead to more transparent and accessible AI developments.

My Opinion: Kind of late to the party, but who knows, Maybe Mira and her team will create the next breakthrough? Not counting her out, just seems like they are entering an arena that is filled with too many heavy hitters.
