✨ Creating AI-Generated Music

Suno, an AI-music generation tool, released its third version a few weeks ago…and it’s good. 

It is so good that 200 musicians signed an open letter calling on tech companies and developers not to undermine human creativity with AI music-generation tools. 

Billie Eilish, the Bob Marley estate, Chappell Roan, Elvis Costello, Greta Van Fleet, Imagine Dragons, Jon Bon Jovi, the Jonas Brothers, Kacey Musgraves, Katy Perry, Mac DeMarco, Miranda Lambert, Mumford & Sons, Nicki Minaj, Noah Kahan, Pearl Jam, Sheryl Crow and Zayn Malik, among others signed the letter. 

We played around with Suno V2, but it wasn’t that impressive. 

Then, we tried V3 and understood why these artists voiced their concerns. 

Suno can generate 2-minute songs with hooks, pre-chorus, choruses, and bridges. You can enter your lyrics and select a style, and the AI will generate up to 4 different versions.

Anthropic Finds New Jailbreaking Methods…

Anthropic researchers have discovered a technique called "many-shot jailbreaking" that can be used to bypass the safety guardrails of large language models (LLMs) and elicit undesirable outputs, such as instructions on building weapons.

The Details:

• Many-shot jailbreaking involves prompting the model with a large number (hundreds) of fictitious question-answer pairs that depict the AI assistant engaging in harmful or unethical behaviors. This can effectively override the model's safety training.

• The technique takes advantage of the increasingly large context windows in state-of-the-art LLMs, which can process information equivalent to several long novels. This allows the attack to scale effectively.

• Anthropic's experiments showed the attack was successful against their models and those from OpenAI, Anthropic, and others. The effectiveness follows predictable scaling laws, with larger models being more vulnerable.

• Mitigations like fine-tuning the model to recognize jailbreaking attempts or preprocessing the prompt have shown promise but come with trade-offs for the model's usefulness.

US and UK will work together to test AI models for safety threats…

The US and UK have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to have their respective AI Safety Institutes collaborate on testing and evaluating emerging AI models, particularly large language models (LLMs).

The details:

• The agreement will see the institutes align their scientific approaches, exchange information and personnel, and conduct joint testing exercises on AI models and systems.

• This partnership is aimed at helping the governments of both countries keep pace with the emerging risks around rapidly developing AI technology, and to promote AI safety globally. The US and UK plan to develop similar partnerships with other countries in the future.
