Battle Testing Claude and ChatGPT

Hi AI’ers. Welcome back!

Did you know: Google researchers have developed an AI system, VLOGGER, that can generate lifelike videos of people speaking and gesturing from a single still photo.

Potential applications of VLOGGER include dubbing videos into other languages, editing and filling in missing frames in a video, creating photorealistic avatars for VR and gaming, and creating more engaging AI-powered virtual assistants and chatbots.

Of course, this product is still being tested, but it goes to show AI video continues to reign in 2024.

Which Is Better?

Claude or ChatGPT?

We’ve been testing Claude-3 a ton in the past weeks, and it’s pretty darn good.

But how does it compare to ChatGPT when it comes to overall performance?

Well, it’s hit or miss.

Claude is very good at generating code. For example, we needed a way to pass URL parameters into our Calendly booking embed.

It sounds nerdy, we know. However, we knew that doing this would increase the chances of a person booking a call.

The problem was that we didn’t have a coder available to assist. So I asked Claude, who gave me the entire code.

This took less than 5 minutes. We placed the code on our site, and it worked.

We have no idea what the code actually does it matter?

It was one of the magical AI moments where we were like a kid in a candy shop.

We tried the same thing in ChatGPT, giving us a similar result.

We then tried a different test: which model can write the better ads?

Our idea was to take inspiration from an ad we saw on Reddit and have AI rewrite for a different service and niche.

We do this to see where AI can take the original idea.

So we asked Claude.

We imported the original ad and gave additional context on how we wanted to modify it.

Claude refused.

This was the first time an AI model told us no, even though the scenario was real.

So, we took the same prompt into ChatGPT.

And ChatGPT wrote a version of the ad without any problems.

ChatGPT often gets a bad rep, but we’ve never had it tell us no because it believes something we’re asking.

So which model is better? We think they both have their strengths and weaknesses.

This mini-test solidifies the thinking of why you can’t rely on just one AI tool.

You need to use multiple AI models in your AI workflows to achieve the desired results you’re looking for.

If one AI tool can’t do what you need, jump into another.

Furthermore, this observation strengthened our belief that AI has to be open source.

Why should any company have the final say on what an AI model can and cannot do?

Do we really want to continue living in a world where a select few control our technology?

These are all questions we as a society must consider as AI continues gaining popularity.
