AI ON MY MIND
Happy Wednesday!
It’s been an awfully quiet week so far in AI land. Not that many ground breaking updates.
Sometimes I like these slow weeks.
However, one thing I’m paying attention to is Exa.ai.
It’s similar to perplexity, but (apparently) better.
They just announced a new feature called Websets.
Imagine searching the web for something and the search results gives you back a spreadsheet of answers.
Thats essentially what Websets are. They allow users to search using natural language and it shoots back a list of items from the search.
It’s a new way to search the web that I think is extremely innovative.
Go to exa ai to join the waitlist to try it out for yourself.

💻 Amazon Announces Supercomputer, New Server Powered by Homegrown AI Chips
Amazon is building one of the world's most powerful AI supercomputers in collaboration with Anthropic, featuring hundreds of thousands of their latest Trainium 2 chips.
The new supercomputer, dubbed Project Rainer, will be five times larger than the cluster used to build Anthropic's current most powerful model and is expected to be the largest reported AI machine in the world when finished.
This massive undertaking comes alongside Amazon's $8 billion investment in Anthropic and the release of various AI tools through their AWS Bedrock platform.
The new Trainium 2 chips will be available in specialized UltraServer clusters that are 30-40% cheaper than Nvidia GPU alternatives.
Amazon unveiled multiple AI models comparable to those from Google, Anthropic, and OpenAI, including multimodal capabilities.
The company also previewed Trainium 3 chips, promising 4x performance improvement, scheduled for late 2025 release1.
⭐️ Amazon announces Nova, a new family of multimodal AI models
Amazon AWS has unveiled Nova, a comprehensive family of multimodal AI models, including four text models (Micro, Lite, Pro, and Premier) along with image and video generation capabilities.
AWS has made Micro, Lite, Pro, Nova Canas (image), and Nova Reel (video) immediately available to customers, with Premier scheduled for Q1 2025 release.
The company is also developing speech-to-speech and "any-to-any" models for mid-2025, aiming to enable versatile input-output combinations across text, speech, images, and video.
The announcement came during Amazon's re:Invent 2024 conference, showcasing their progress in frontier model development.
Nova's immediate availability demonstrates Amazon's commitment to competing in the AI space.
The upcoming "any-to-any" model represents a significant advancement in multimodal AI capabilities.
🍪 Apple says it uses Amazon’s custom AI chips
Apple has revealed its use of Amazon Web Services' AI chips for various functions, including search capabilities, and is exploring Amazon's latest Trainium2 chip for pre-training its AI models.
The collaboration marks a rare public acknowledgment of a supplier relationship by Apple, with the company reporting significant efficiency improvements of up to 40% using AWS chips for search functions.
This strategic move demonstrates Apple's diverse approach to AI development, utilizing multiple cloud providers while maintaining its focus on device-based processing for its Apple Intelligence features.
Apple has maintained a decade-long partnership with AWS for services like Siri, Apple Maps, and Apple Music.
The company expects up to 50% efficiency improvements during pre-training with the new Trainium2 chip.
Unlike competitors, Apple's AI strategy emphasizes on-device processing using its own chips, with cloud services as a supplement.
