If you haven’t heard the word MCP yet, you will.

So what are MCP’s? And why do they matter.

Imagine you have a brilliant virtual assistant—think of it as a high-tech helper that can tackle all kinds of tasks for you. But this virtual assistant has a problem: It can only focus on one thing at a time. It’s like having a coworker who can only manage your email or update your calendar, but never both together.

That's not very helpful.

That’s where Anthropic’s Model-Context Protocols, or MCPs, come in.

Basically, an MCP is like a plugin that translates apps to an LLM (large language model), so an agent can talk to those apps and services seamlessly.

It’s a universal connector—a kind of digital Rosetta Stone—that lets your AI assistant tap into all sorts of tools and data sources without needing custom-built bridges for each one.

Think of it as giving your assistant a superpower: the ability to pull info from your Google Drive, query a database, or even check GitHub, all in one smooth conversation.

Why does this matter?

Because today’s AI systems, no matter how smart, are often stuck in isolation, cut off from the real-time data and tools they need to be truly useful.

MCPs break down those walls, making AI more practical and powerful for everyday tasks.

My Opinion: It’s hard to keep up on all the new AI models. I’m set with Grok, ChatGPT and Claude for now.
