TikTok Fuels Microsoft
ByteDance Ltd.'s TikTok was paying close to $20 million per month to Microsoft Corporation in order to obtain OpenAI’s artificial intelligence models, The Information reported on Wednesday citing a source familiar with the matter.
TikTok's vast user base and engagement have generated a wealth of data that Microsoft has leveraged for AI development.
Microsoft's partnership with TikTok has given them access to unique datasets, enhancing their AI capabilities.
The social media platform's popularity and diverse content have proven invaluable for training AI algorithms.
OpenAI x US Senate
OpenAI has endorsed three Senate bills that could shape the U.S. government's stance on artificial intelligence, including the Future of AI Innovation Act which would authorize the United States AI Safety Institute to set standards and guidelines for AI models. The company believes the government has an important role in ensuring AI is safe and accessible.
OpenAI also endorsed the NSF AI Education Act and the CREATE AI Act, which provide federal scholarships for AI research and establish AI educational resources.
As a leader in generative AI, OpenAI is likely to face regulatory scrutiny and these endorsements help build goodwill with lawmakers.
The Future of AI Innovation Act directs federal agencies to create curated datasets for public use that private companies are unlikely to create.
Meta blames hallucinations after its AI said Trump rally shooting didn’t happen
Meta's AI chatbot erroneously claimed that the recent assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump did not occur, an issue the company is attributing to "hallucinations" common in generative AI systems. Meta initially restricted its AI from responding to questions about the shooting, but lifted the limitation after users noticed, leading to the AI occasionally still providing incorrect information.
Meta's global policy chief Joel Kaplan described the AI's responses about the shooting as "unfortunate" and a persistent challenge with generative AI
Meta is working to address these issues and improve the AI's capabilities as it develops and receives user feedback
The incident has also led to scrutiny of other tech companies like Google, with Trump alleging they are suppressing information related to the assassination attempt
