3 new Chrome AI features for even more helpful browsing

Google is introducing 3 new AI features in Chrome to make browsing more helpful:

  1. Google Lens is coming to Chrome desktop, allowing users to select, search and ask questions about anything they see on the web without leaving their current tab.

  2. Tab compare will generate an AI overview comparing products across multiple tabs, making online shopping research easier by consolidating essential details like specs, features, price and ratings in one place.

  3. Users will be able to search their browsing history in a more natural, conversational way using AI. For example, typing "What was that ice cream shop I looked at last week?" will surface relevant visited pages.

The key details:

  • These features utilize the latest Google AI and Gemini models to create a faster, safer and more helpful browsing experience.

  • Tab compare will be available first in the U.S. in the coming weeks.

  • The conversational history search will be optional and can be turned on/off in settings. It will never include incognito mode browsing data.

Ex-Google engineers who founded Character.AI rejoin company with new AI partnership

The founders of Character.AI, a billion-dollar AI startup, are returning to Google along with some of their research team to join the company's AI division, DeepMind. As part of the partnership, Character.AI will license its large language model technology to Google, providing additional funding for the startup to focus on developing personalized AI products. This move comes as Google faces criticism for being outpaced in the AI chatbot race and aims to accelerate its efforts in the market.

  • Character.AI founders Noam Shazeer and Daniel De Freitas, along with select research team members, are rejoining Google's DeepMind division.

  • Character.AI will grant Google a non-exclusive license for its existing large language model technology, securing additional funding for the startup.

  • The partnership allows Character.AI to devote more resources to fine-tuning and developing new products for its user base.

The New York Times and other top news sites block OpenAI's new SearchGPT web crawling bot

Several major news publishers, including The New York Times, have blocked OpenAI's new SearchGPT web crawler called OAI-SearchBot, potentially limiting the AI search engine's ability to provide comprehensive results.

  • 14 of the top 1,000 website publishers have blocked OAI-SearchBot, including The New York Times, Wired, The New Yorker, Vogue, Vanity Fair, and GQ.

  • OpenAI claims OAI-SearchBot doesn't collect data for AI training, but publishers may distrust the company due to its history of collecting online data without permission.

  • The New York Times has sued OpenAI and Microsoft, alleging unlawful use of its content and expressing concerns about AI-powered search engines siphoning off traffic from publishers.

HeyGen x Sharpshooter

You’ve seen this meme, right? If not, it’s been going viral after a Turkish sharpshooter, Yusuf Dikec, won a medal during the Olympics. The reason for its virality is he seems like a normal guy who entered the event the day before, while everyone else wore gear to help them shoot.

Some people are calling him John Wick.

Yusuf did a reaction video, in Turkish, of course, to all of the funny things said about him online.

HeyGen, decided to translate the funny reaction using their Language Translation tool. This is a great AI usecase. Check it out.
